CITY OF SCIENCE
Location: Giza, Egypt
Start year: 2016
Planned realisation period: until 2021
Area: 85 000 m2
Investor: Library of Alexandria
Scope of works: architectural and landscape concept for the centre of science, design of exhibition, office, research, and public areas.
Science and technology have now thrived for over two hundred years, which is unique in the history of the human kind. Recognising the need for a place which would allow an even more dynamic development of science, the Library of Alexandria has announced an international architectural contest. Some of the largest design offices in the world have participated in the contest. Its aim was to propose an architectural and landscape concept for the completely new City of Science in Giza. Our concept is related to the ancient history of Egypt - the design of the main building constitutes a symbol of renaissance - it resembles god Horus embracing the Sun. It is a link to the currently thriving science in Egypt. Moreover, we designed a science garden around the centre with the aim of showing the geological and biological diversity of Egypt. Advanced materials and construction techniques guarantee weather resistance, cost effectiveness and attractive visual aspects of the building which we designed.
